PASSAIC (AP) - The accused leader of a Bloods street gang was arrested early yesterday while leaving a go-go bar, authorities said. Tommy Terrell "Omega Red" Thompson is the last of 15 reputed members of his "Sex, Money, Murder-252" faction to be arrested, authorities said.
Thompson, described as the "Five Star General" of the Jersey City Bloods, was wanted on FBI drug charges, as well as on a Hudson County racketeering indictment. The investigation began in May when Jersey City police noticed an increase in gang activity in the area of Stegman Street and Ocean Avenue. County and local police formed a task force to investigate.
Thompson was arrested without incident by a task force that included deputy U.S. marshals, FBI agents and Passaic County sheriff's officers, said Michael Drewniak, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office.
In addition to racketeering, he is accused of leading a drug trafficking network and conspiracy to commit a number of crimes, including robbery, assault and theft.
