Teens wounded at west-end party
Second victim found hiding in basement

Two teens were sent to hospital early this morning after a shooting at a large house party near Jane St. and Eglinton Ave. W., police said. Just before 4 a.m., Toronto police responded to the sound of gunshots at a house on Lambton Ave. At the scene, officers found a trail of blood and followed it inside to a 17-year-old male with a bullet wound in his foot.

On the second floor of the home, officers found several youths and the wounded teen's grandmother asleep.

Nearly two hours later, police discovered another shooting victim - an 18-year-old with wounds to his face, shoulder and leg - hiding in the basement.

While there were at least 50 partiers inside the house at the time of the shooting, police say they have received little co-operation from the guests.

They do have a description of a suspect. He is a male, 19, 5'8" to 5'9", 180 pounds, wearing a beige shirt and beige pants and armed with a handgun.

Man shot in Malvern mall
Cops hunting for two men after 19-year-old hospitalized as bullets riddle Scarborough convenience store

By CHRIS DOUCETTE, TORONTO SUN

A 19-year-old man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound and a Scarborough variety store riddled with bullet holes in the latest shooting at the Malvern Town Centre.

The teen was inside the Mac's convenience store, off Neilson Rd. just north of Tapscott Rd., with another young man when the gunfire erupted just before midnight Friday, Toronto police said.

"It appears one of the suspects made a hand gesture to the victim to come outside," Staff-Sgt. Jim Darbyshire, of 42 Division, said yesterday. "When he got to the door the shooter opened fire."

UNDERWENT SURGERY

The young man was hit once in the leg and underwent surgery at Sunnybrook hospital, police said. He is expected to recover.

At least five bullet holes were found inside the store and a glass door of a beverage fridge was shattered. One bullet struck a Canada Post counter, another pierced a package of envelopes on a shelf and three struck a wall.

Officers sifted through post office packages in a room behind the wall that was hit with three shots, apparently searching for bullets.

Cops are looking for at least two men who may have fled the scene in a dark-coloured Honda Civic. One is described as black, about 5-foot-9, and possibly carrying a 9 mm handgun. No description was available for the second man.

It's not the first time there's been gun violence at the mall, and area residents were not surprised to learn of the shooting.

"I won't come here after dark," said one woman, who did not give her name.

On Sept. 23, 2005, two teens, 17 and 18, were injured in what appeared to be a driveby shooting at the Malvern Town Centre.

DIVING FOR COVER

The gunman opened fire from the parking lot on a Pizza Pizza, sending patrons inside diving for cover.

The year before, on Jan. 13, a 20-year-old man was shot in the neck as he sat in a car outside the Scarborough mall. The victim survived.

And on Dec. 6, 1991, two masked men opened fire on a mall security guard, narrowly missing their target, in what police said was a botched robbery.
