Back in the day, nobody called niggas "gangs". In fact, police NEVER liked using the word. They were all just considered 'young punks'. That is until police and politicians learned how to exploit the criminality happening in poor areas in order to procure votes or a larger budget. Overnight Toronto went from having 'no gangs' to being gang infested.

But the only thing that changed is that hoods used to role as 1 unit, now 1 hood can have about 5 different cliques in it who don't necessarily function together.

Back in the day you had crews like the Boys in Blue, Tiny Toons, La Familia, 18Buddhas, Tuxedo Boys, Parma Court Posse, Silver Spring Boys and the Apocalypse Crew in the east. West had the JFK (Jane Finch Killas), Gatorz, MNMs (Mother Nature's Mistakes), New Born Crips, Loonie Toons. Downtown had mad crews like the YBG (Young Blood Generation) , Young Gunz & them Point Blank cats from Regent. Not to mention the Parkdale Crew, Esplanade Crew, True Portuguese Bloods, Fred Hamilton Boys, Christie Boys, LA Boys & of course them mad ass P.O. Boys.

Some of these crews are still around today. That's a trip. But most of em are turnt down or extinct.
